The lack of help for the Romanovs is not entirely to be blamed to the King. He was bound by the Government.
But sometimes there are also painful situations. For an example in the Netherlands: in the war the royal family sought shelter in the United Kingdom. Princess Juliana and her two children (Beatrix and Irene) went to Canada, amongst them Jonkvrouw Martine Roëll née Del Court van Krimpen who was a dear friend to Juliana.
Her spouse, Jonkheer Willem Roëll, was the Steward of the Royal Domains and became arrested by the Germans because of his involvement within the resistance.
Queen Wilhelmina, Princess Juliana and Prince Bernhard made pleas to their German relatives, like Prince Josias von Waldeck und Pyrmont, a General and Obergruppenführer SS. A full cousin to Queen Wilhelmina.
His spouse Princess Altburg von Waldeck und Pyrmont née Duchess von Oldenburg was a full cousin of Prince Hendrik (the late spouse of Queen Wilhelmina).
Queen Wilhelmina's brother-in-law Adolf Friedrich von Mecklenburg was a full nazi as well and active in the Reichspropagandaministerium. (After the war he would even become President of the German Olympic Committee).
All these relatives were begged by their Dutch relatives to do a favour and make a plea for the life of Jonkheer Roëll. Without response and without success. Jonkheer Roëll, the Queen's so loyal and trusted Steward, was shot dead by the Nazi's.
When after the war the Russians invaded Germany and many of these highborn royal nobles suddenly, on their turn, begged their 'dearest sister' or 'dearest aunt' Wilhelmina for help to keep their estates, something broke into her (and Juliana). Never, ever they would reconcile anymore with their German relatives.
This sad anecdote is telling how difficult reality can be. All these royal families were related to the Tsar and Tsarina and the other Romanovs. No one did something to save their lifes. They had no any possibility to do so. It is too easy to blame them for it. God knows how miserable and guilty George V has felt for the rest of his life.
