...A period of separation could have worked things out and then we would already a decade ago have celebrated the Silver Wedding of their marriage.
Did I miss something? Silver Weddings are celebrated after 25 years, aren't they? Andrew and Sarah married in 1986 - so IF they were still married, your desired act of a Silver Wedding would take place in about two years from now.
Why act? You vote for leading seperate lifes better than divorce in your post further down. To celebrate a Silver Wedding under such circumstances would be (IMO) more a drama - there would be celebrated something that only exists 'on the paper', but no more 'in real life'. Celebrating even with a Service of Thanksgiving for the oh so enduring marriage??
Ridiculous!
No, Sarah may have made many poor decisions in her life, wheter divorcing Andrew was her poorest, I doubt. But remaining in a unhappy union only for keeping up the appearance and for continuing leading a comfortable life in luxury and abundance? No! I respect her for her decision, it shows a lot of 'having backbone' and also self-respect. And I admire both for having managed to keep on friendly speaking-terms for the advantage of upbringing of their two girls.
