: Yes, but man would think that the
: disappointments of royal life would be at
: least balanced by the advantages of royal
: life.
:
: What I -again- miss in this whole story is
: the word sacrifice. For the two princesses.
: For the monarchy. As no any other woman in
: the United Kingdom the then Duchess of York
: had all possibility to lead her own,
: separated, life from her 'boring' husband
: but still remain The Duchess of York and
: being a valued member of 'The Firm'.
:
: Then we would have seen the Silver Wedding
: of The Duke and Duchess of York, and in the
: coming decades we would have seen a
: gracefully aging Duchess, the aunt of the
: future King and probably developing into a
: sort of beloved 'Princess Lilian'-role.
:
: From all what happened since the separation
: and divorce of both the Duchess of York as
: well the late Princess of Wales, I truly
: doubt they would find real happiness again
: after their royal divorces.
But Sarah couldn't and didn't keep herself a "valued member of 'the firm'". That was the problem. She was unable to conform to inside or outside expectations of a member of the royal family. I think this became obvious almost immediately and she has not changed at all over the years as far as I can see. I don't see how their marriage could possibly have been an ongoing success.
