If i remember the speculations at the time correctly the separation and divorce were not Sarah's idea and Andrew might have wanted something else as well. Speculation had it that they were ordered to seperate and divorce by the Queen with the Duke of Edinburgh as the main force behind it. Sarah had by that time dragged the Royal Family through plenty of scandals and their seperation and divorce were a great test-case for a solution of the Wales' problem that also existed at the time.
Contrary to Charles and Diana Sarah and Andrew have always managed to keep their personal relationship cordial (even though she clearly cheated on him).
