Well if the article is correct Italian law makes a distinction between children legally adopted by a married couple or born from a marriage and the offspring someone conceives outsides matrimony. The brother is legally single with a male life partner and has natural children. In quite a few other countries those kids would have trouble to get any part of the inheritance as well. The English aristocratic custom of leaving everything to the eldest legitimate son is unthinkable and illegal in countries affected by the Code Napoleon.
