A hoard of gold and silver, described as "far bigger than the Sutton Hoo" has been found. The Sutton Hoo treasure is generally thought to come from the burial of an early East Anglian king. The new find comes from Mercian territory and is said to date from between 600 to 700. As the treasure is said to contain "items exhibiting the very finest Anglo-Saxon workmanship" it is most likely from another royal burial. Unfortunately, the body will have long since rotted away, together with any wood or leather objects.
The picture below shows the sceptre from Sutton Hoo.
