: The timing is completely wrong so cannot
: reflect any real affair between Giscard
: d'Estaing and Diana. He left office a year
: after she married Charles.
: It's just a story he wrote. If the old man
: fantasized about an affair with Diana and
: wrote a book about it, that's just what it
: is a book of an old man's fantasy. At least
: he had the dencency to use fake characters.
: No doubt his publishers very much enjoy this
: speculation about Diana as it will boost the
: sales.
There seems to be a bit of a pattern of French presidents fantasising about prominent British women.I recall the late François Mitterand's comments about Margaret Thatcher,"She had the eyes of Caligula and the mouth of Marilyn Monroe".
I think Giscard was a little too old for Diana's tastes.Prince Charles seems to have been the only older man that she ever had a romantic relationship with and after that turned sour, she never entertained any others. All her subsequent boyfriends were men of (more or less) her own age group.
But older men are as entitled to their fantasises as anybody else!
