On September 16 1701,the last Stuart king,James II of England & VII of Scotland died in exile at Saint Germain en Laye near Paris.He was a month short of his 68th birthay.He was buried in the chapel of the convent of the English Benedictines in Paris but during the Revolution the chapel was ransacked and his remains were scattered like those of his French royal relatives.
James II & VII was the last British monarch to reign by right of blood.All subsequent monarchs have reigned via Act of Parliament.
