I agree with you Jane.
It is ironic that when Lord Nicholas's mother converted it was said that it would have no lasting effect on the royal family and yet her son & two of her grandchildren have converted and, obviously, Nicholas's children will be catholic. The only branch of the senior Kent line that is now protestant is Lady Helen's family. Even the Dukedom will eventually become a catholic title.

: No, the issue is not with Catholics: after
: all, I'm one myself (having converted even
: before Lord Nicholas). Rather, I'm just
: noting that he and his wife seem to go out
: of their way to stress their religious
: identity -- to the point of flaunting.
:
: As just one point: they could, for instance,
: have married in the UK (after all, there are
: plenty of Catholic churches there).
: Instead, they traveled all the way to the
: VATICAN. What were they trying to prove,
: anyway? Present themselves as
: super-Catholics of some sort?
:
: If anything, this sort of thing diminishes
: the claims of universality, on the part of
: Catholicism. If the church indeed is
: universal, and the Windsors would like to
: see her as thus, they might simply have wed
: in Great Britain.
:
: It seems to me that they were effectively
: dissociating themselves from the British
: people, with their strong display of
: Catholicism. I can't but wonder if their
: act may have possibly engendered a certain
: degree of hostility at home ... There are
: enough divisions in the world, and if you
: will, national society with the UK
: (everybody knows about the centuries-divide
: between Catholics and Protestants). Might
: not their decision be a sign of yet another
: "us-versus-them" thing, amongst
: the country's religious groups?

: Jane, what is your issue with catholics?
: your your posting is - in mild words -
: utterly strange

: It sure would have been nice if their second
: child had been a girl. In that case, they
: could have given her a host of Marian names
: ...
:
: Lord and Lady Nicholas Windsor sure are
: going out of their way to flaunt their
: Catholicism. While the timing of their
: child's birth was not entirely within their
: control, their choice of wedding site
: certainly was: the VATICAN, of all places
: ...
:
: Perhaps they're trying to rub something into
: the royal family?

: The baby was born at Chelsea and Westminster
: Hospital on Tuesday - an auspicious day for
: his deeply Catholic parents, as it was the
: feast day of the Virgin Mary
