: RS finally gets her first fight in...and
: loses.
Considering she's not a warrior in this incarnation, she did pretty well.
: In the previous issue, RS and Daniel
: (husband) set sail, only to be waylaid by
: pirates. Unfortunately for the crew, RS
: isn't the RS of legend, and the crew loses
: the fight. Daniel refuses to give up a
: secret (maybe he doesn't know?), and is
: killed. RS shows a flash of her warrior
: past, and cuts off the hands of one pirates.
: She's then gutted, and falls in the ocean.
:
: RS revives on shore, finding her dead
: husband and crew. Rather upset, she
: encounters the mysterious guy who slashed
: the goddess. RS semi-recognizes him....he
: goes by Osin. He tells her that she's alive
: b/c these worm things are keeping her from
: bleeding out. Yeah...ok. She was run
: completely through. But ok.
Wait... you forgot about Osin?
He was a regular in most of the run. The hand were the monster claw is now was the one that was cut off in the past. That is the reason I suspected it was him when I first read #35. Heck, I suspected it was him when I first read the preview in Newsarama, before buying the book.
About those leeches... these little uglies actually suck blood, and I don't know if they can cauterize the wounds in doing so. Also, the way she grabbed the one in her stomach and crushed it, seem like a very risky thing to do. Imagine doing that to something that is in the act of sucking your blood by tightly stuck on you... it'd be a mess.
But this is comics, so I won't be so picky.
Exaggerations are what gives comics a huge dose of their spectacle factor, or so they say.
: Osin tells her that her people are dead. RS
: tells him that she wants to be a
: warrior..and squishes one of the worm
: things.
Yep, that she did.
: Thoughts:
: An ok issue. Decompressed for sure. The
: real value is the work of Geovani and
: Andrade. The pencils and colors are quite
: good, and are worth the issue alone.
I've read both #35 and #36 in one go, and they felt OK... guess they were intended to be read this way.
: There's also a nice full page tribute to
: Michael Turner.
It's like that tribute page they made about Will Eisner when he passed away, too.
About Turner, and going a little off-topic, Aspen announced the publishing of an special pencilled and written by various artists that were close to him as a tribute.
: All in all, a little slow feeling, but a
: good issue. Worth a read.
I've read an interview to Brian Reed in which he stated that the real action started from issue #37 and that both #35 and #36 were meant to be set-up issues. So, I'm still excited about what's to come. Looking forward to it.
