Posted by sheridan on 8/26/2007, 8:46 pm ST3 opens with a typical red sonja in a bar opening scene. IMO, her reaction to an uncouth bar patron was a bit much. dynamite is writing sonja a touch on the violent side. i have the same objections to this opening as i did with RS annual 1. not so hot of an opening installment for this issue, if you ask me. joyce chin does a fantastic job on the art, though he draws RS a little more busty than i think is right. will murai's colors are excellent. the second installment is "battle for atlantis." thus far, the story line has been a little slow for my tastes, but this issue brings things up to speed. the lemuria go on the attack, and it goes poorly for the atlanteans. a solid installment in this run. as for the third installment, "where walks the hunter" continues to impress. IMO, this is the best mini in this title. the issue picks up where the last left off. the hunter has rescued a damsel in distress (well, an evil witch follower of na-fori), and has apparently consummated the rescue. with little time to get to know each other better, the two are attacked by a demon sent by kulan gath. a melee ensues, with the hunter getting the short end of the stick. he's rescued by the witch, who knifes the demon in the back. the witch then gives a very romantic "i will stand by you" speech to a battered hunter. apparently evil villains need love, too. i'm hopeful for a red sonja tie in. hunter was a super villain, and with sonja leading up to a final show down with kulan gath, i'm sure we'll see the hunter and the witch appear again before everything is said and done. of course, oeming is writing this with luke lieberman. i'm sure oeming will tie this story into the monthly. last by not least, we have the the lovecraft-ian "elder things that feel to earth." in this third installment, c'thulhu's forces have over run the island of r'lyeh. c'thulhu makes an appearance. apparently, his madness makes his followers grow strange appendages. kinda reminds me of davey jones' crew on pirates. kron shows down with his brother, then gets to the rescue ship where he finds out that his wife, sash (who previously succumbed to the madness), killed his helper, toth. an excellent 3rd installment of this mini as well.
