Posted by sheridan on 6/27/2006, 12:06 am i'm working on trying to figure out how to modify certain parts of the board. to keep w/ the idea of expanding the topics here, did anybody read claw? i got the first issue and wasn't overly impressed. the first page pencils looked a lot like conan's, but that's about it. (not that sword/sorcery books MUST look like conan...) apparently, claw has some sort of blood-lust hand that he can't get rid of it despite his best efforts (he cut off his hand, but it grew back). we're introduced to claw as a hired hand in a mercenary army. a witch appears to tell him that he and she will rule as king/queen, but first that he must go on a mission. claw thinks she's hot, and tries to cop a feel, to no avail. and of course, he goes off to do her bidding.... the mercs he was working for don't like the fact that he just broke ranks (and also that he was mouthing off to their captain), so they send a group off to kill him and bring back the claw for the captain. the posse almost gets claw, when three "helpers" sent by the witch come to his aid. they tell him that they'll help claw at the bidding of the witch, but curiously they don't like horses. claw takes off, and the others presumably walk behind. the issue ends with a witch (maybe the same one, maybe not) seeking to enlist the help of some man-creature that apparently eats people. ISSUES w/ the issue: claw is a new character, so it's too early to pass judgement on his characterization, but.... 1) i didn't like claw just breaking off from his merc group as easily as he did. i can appreciate that he may have wanted to find a way to get rid of the claw, but it seemed a bit rushed and some what "un-noble." 2) it appears he has a strong lust for women. his encounter w/ the witch and also his reference to liking (i forget the race's name) women seems to be a character flaw that will be exploited from time to time. it also seems like it will allow the character to be a natural fit for team ups w/ red sonja given her mandate to be chaste unless bested in battle. i hope this isn't over done, though.... 3) the pencils looked a little less fluid than i would like. but again, it's a new character and a new universe, so i'd give them time. 4) i wouldn't have expected claw to be in serious trouble during his first issue. but that's minor... sheridan
