I can't be of much help but can tell you the following; The "Official" accident report doesn't show much but states "Failed to return from night flight(Training)". Not a combat mission.
You also have the BuNo of the PBJ wrong.The correct BuNo# is 35087 PBJ-1D (35037 belonged to VMB-443). It was accepted and delivered on 7-28-43.On 10-1-43 it was with MAW 3. On 10-5-43 it was with MAG 61.On 10-8-43 it was with A&R Quantico.On 10-13-43 it was with Cherry Pt.MCAD.1-8-44 it was in Poc, and then went to VMB-423.It was stricken from the records on 8-31-44.I am doing research for a book on PBJ Accidents and Incidents and would appreciate any information you come across.
