Part of a letter from Frieda Schuck, recent widow of navigator/bombardier William Schuck, VMB-423:
"Im writing in response to your letter of January 8, 2004. Sorry it has taken so long - I knew this would be hard when I finally had time and a chance. You see, Bill had put up a valiant battle against Parkinsons until June 16th. He was laid to rest on June 21 after a beautiful memorial service at our church. His two sons delivered wonderful tributes and my grandson, Major Wm. M. Schuck, USMC, presented the flag to me after taps were played (at the grave site). I could do no less than to stand up and salute him, too.
And all of you who were out there on Green Island together - Thank you for making it possible for all of us to still be free on this July 4, 2004."
