SPRINGFIELD - Peter F. Dunne Jr., 78, of Springfield died Saturday, March 20,
2004, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born April 1, 1925, in Bridgeport, Conn., the son of Peter F. and Mary
D. Burns Dunne. He married Joan Cramblit in 1953.
Mr. Dunne attended Boston College and Merrimack College in Wellesley, Mass. He
was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific
in 48 combat missions. He was a radio gunner and flew in SBDs and B-25s. He
received theater medals, two Distinguished Flying Crosses and six Air Medals.
He co-owned two weekly newspapers and an advertising agency. He worked for
United Press International, serving as regional executive for the Illinois and
St. Louis areas. He worked at the Illinois Department of Transportation, DCCA,
Illinois Small Business Growth Corp. and the Illinois Department of Public Aid
and Aging. He retired in 1990.
Survivors: wife, Joan; two daughters, Marcia Dunne-Kyle (husband, John) of
Fishers, Ind., and Shaela C. Dunne (husband, Bradley D. Gubin) of Pleasant
Plains; a son, Blake T. (wife, Kathleen) Dunne of Jupiter Farms, Fla.; five
grandchildren; and a sister, Susan (husband, Robert) Dittman of Houston.
Celebration of life: 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sebastian's Hideout.
Wilson Park Funeral Home in Rochester is in charge of arrangements.
