Charles "Milton" Smith (1923-2011)
Charles "Milton" Smith, 87, went home to be with his Lord Jesus on Monday, August 15, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Smith.
Mr. Smith moved to Pensacola from Mobile at an early age and graduated from Pensacola High School. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943 and served during World War II in the Pacific.
His career was in Life Insurance and he earned his CLU in 1967. He was a past president of the Pensacola Life Underwriters Association and was named the Insurance Women of Pensacola's 1967 "Boss of the Year".
During his lifetime he served on the Pensacola Area Chamber of Commerce Public Affairs Committee, City of Pensacola Pension Board, President and Board of Directors and Member of the Waterfront Rescue Mission, member of the Pensacola Civitan Club since 1959, member of Olive Baptist Church, and he and his wife were members of the Gulf Coasters Camping Club.
Mr. Smith is survived by his loving wife, Ellen; four children, Charles Milton Smith, Jr. (wife Darlene), Susan Wesler, Carol Ann Colbert (husband Hal), Shari Roush; six grandchildren, Jessica Hardy, Ryan Wesler, Claire, Patton and Emory Colbert and John Michael Roush and one great-grandchild, CJ Hardy; two sisters and two brothers, Frances Pingrey of Seattle, Mary Lou Haynes of Gulf Breeze, Jack Smith of Mobile and Richard Smith of Tallahassee and many other family members and friends.
