Marianne J. Brockman-Hemberger, 89, of Scio, died at her daughter’s home on March 11, 2010.
A memorial service was held on March 18 at Huston-Jost Funeral Home.
She was born March 7, 1921, in Solomons Island, Md., the daughter of Loren and Pearl (Langley) Dowell.
She joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and served as a pharmacist. She was stationed in San Diego.
After the Navy, she worked for Pacific Bell Telephone.
She married Vincent Brockman in 1949. The couple later divorced.
She raised three children in Los Angeles and Orange, Calif. She later lived in Anaheim, Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach, Calif.
She worked in data processing and wrote the company newspaper for Interstate Electronic until retiring at the age of 67.
At age 79, she married Charles John Hemberger.
She moved to Scio in 2009 to be near her daughters.
Mrs. Brockman-Hemberger was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Orange, Calif. She was a member of a bowling league.
She is survived by husband Charles J. Hemberger of California; son James Lee Brockman of Mission Viejo, Calif.; daughters Patricia Ann Crawford of Albany and Gale Catherine DeJong of Scio; brother Benjamin Dowell of Solomons Island, Md.; sister Juanita Kolojiez of Baltimore; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Her brothers Calvin and George and sister Eva Ellenberg died before she did.
