Sadly, another loss to report:
Thomas Vernon Evans, 89, of Simsbury, husband of the late Mary (McWilliams) Evans, passed away Monday (March 24, 2008). Born on September 21, 1918, in New Castle, PA, he was the son of the late John and Annamarie (Hopkins) Evans.
At the outbreak of World War II he was commissioned a Naval aviator. After flight training at Pensacola, Tom transferred to the Marine Corps. He piloted B-25 Mitchell bombers in the South Pacific and was awarded two Distinguished Flying Crosses.
Tom is survived by his eight children and their spouses: Michael Evans and wife Carol; Thomas P. Evans and wife Linda; John Evans; Daniel Evans and wife Theresa; Robert Evans and wife Linda; Janet Evans and husband James Corrigan; James Evans and wife Irma; and Anne Bobowick . He was pre-deceased by his wife Mary and son-in-law Roy Bobowick. He leaves behind his brother Robert Evans and his wife Joan; and his 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Calling hours are 4 - 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, at Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT 06070. Burial will be private for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom's memory to the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL), 225 Main Street, Newington, CT 06111-1494.
