SMITH family in early 1830's

I am trying to find parents of William SMITH born in Samoa Islands in 1840. The only other SMITH I can find in the islands is Oscar SMITH who was born in 1829 in Windsor, Isle of Wight County, Virginia. Could William and Oscar be brothers? Who are the parents of Oscar and what happened to his family that they are suddenly in Samoa by the 1850's? Family rumours say that William's father was a sea captain who married a native islander in the South Seas.
