Posted by Lance Bowden He was the son of John S. Bowdoin Jr. (b 1700 to 1705 in Northampton VA, died in 1739 in Somerset MD) & Elizabeth Folsom (b 1710). Other children besides John include: I'm intrigued about who the first Bowdoin/Bowdon/Bowdens were in Isle of Wight, or in VA at all for that matter. I haven't found a lot of "pure" Bowden spelling in VA or NC until closer to 1750 or so, which is probably due to evolution of the French spelling and/or an increase in English immigration. There seem to be a few Bowdoins who moved from Massachusetts to the Eastern Shore of VA and MD by 1700 or earlier. Could anyone suggest who the first Bowdens in Isle of Wight were (or in VA for that matter), and were they descendants of French or immigrants from England?)

I don't have any "proof" for any of this, but the John you are looking for may be John Bowdoin/Bowden (b 1725 in Delmarva but died 12/4/1788 in Isle of Wight).
William Bowdon (sic) (b 1720 to 1725, d 1773)
Richard Bowdoin (b 1725 to 1730 in Delmarva)
Robert Bowdoin (b 1725 to 1730 in Delmarva)
