Posted by Terri I am working to solve an OLD family mystery and disagreement about the Corn family of Virgina. Some parts of the family claim that a man named Mathew Corn is the father of my ggg grandfather John Peter Corn, and others feel that John Adam Corn is his father. What I do know is that John Peter's mother's name was Mary/Molly he had brother's George, Samuel, Jesse, and possibly a sister Nancy Malinda. John Peter and his brother Jesse served in the Rev. War. I feel that the family story of 3 or 4 brothers coming to America together may be correct but off a generation. The brothers might be named Mathew, William, and or Edward with a possible John. And I feel that one of them is the father of John Adams born in Isle of Wright County VA. but can find nothing to prove this at this time. I've also looked into the origin of the name Jesse in our family line and have discovered that there is a surname of Jesse in Isle of Wright. Jesse may have been a mother's surname, perhaps the mother of John Adams Corn since he named a son Jesse. Jesse was not a popular first name at that time and is a Hebrew name. With only four sons I doubt that if John Adam (or mathew) were following traditional naming patterns they would have chosen an obscure Hebrew name instead of a family name. Any information or input would be HIGHLY welcome. There are literally thousands of Corn cousins out there on the Internet with various takes on the dead end of our family tree. I thought I'd toss this out in Isle of Wright and see what sticks. THANKS for reading.
