I'm seeking information about Captain Emmett M. Morrison, 15th Virginia Infantry (Civil War).
Thus far, I've consulted V.M.I. (where he graduated from in 1861), the website "Antietam on the Web" (he lost his arm at the battle of Sharpsburg (Antietam, MD), September 17, 1862), the 15th Virginia Infantry, by Louis H. Manarin, the Southern Historical Society Papers, and a few other sources I can't remember. A brief synopsis is listed below.
Most of all, I'm looking information about his services during the battle of Sharpsburg, preferably letters or newspaper accounts written by or about him. Unfortunately, I don't have access to Confederate Veteran magazine which might shed a little light on him as well.
Captain Morrison was born in Smithfield, VA on 8/21/1841, and died there on 06/08/1932. I understand he is buried at St. Luke's Church, Benns, near Smithfield, VA. His profession is listed as "teacher." In 1872 he was appointed Brigadier General of the 8th Brigade, 4th Division of Virginia Militia. This commission is the only holding related to Morrison listed in V.M.I.'s online database.
Any information you can provide, or suggestions you care to make would be most welcome.
(PS For a thrilling account Captain Morrison's exploits at Antietam please see the following website:
http://aotw.org/officers.php?officer_id=575&from=results I feel certain that there's more information available about his conduct during the battle. It is alleged that he captured the revolver of a dying Union officer (Captain James R. Barnett, 35th New York Infantry) and used it until he was seriously wounded. I looking for any account that would confirm this.)
