My mother's family are the Pedens. I have the lineage back to just before 1810. James Peden, Sr. married Jane Calhoun, whose son Hiram Peden was born in 1810 in Elizabeth Township, Allegheny Co., Pa. Hiram Peden married Martha Lapsley and children include Samuel L. Peden (b.1829, d.1880) in Pa., Priscilla Peden (b.1832), Margaret Jane Peden (b.1833), James F. Peden (b.1835), Mary Ida Peden (b.1838), Ann Eliza Peden (b. 1840), Thomas Donley Peden (b. 1842), Martha Peden (b. 1843), and Hannah Peden (b.1846). My line of the family comes from James F. Peden, whose son, James Fenton Peden was my great grandfather, who was born in Surry Co. in 1889, for his branch of the family moved mostly to Isle of Wight and Surry Co. He married my great grandmother Josephine Wells who was born in 1893 in Isle of Wight. They had 12 children, one of which was my grandfather Archer W. Peden of Ivor. Lots of Pedens are buried at Mills Swamp Baptist Church, which I noticed is not included on the web page for Isle of Wight cemeteries.
