I have done some work on the family of Charles Whitmore, who moved to what is now Alamance county NC. He appears to have married a Jeffries woman, and is counted as a "Free Colored" head of household in 1830 in old Orange County, along with what is probably his son Jesse Whitmore living adjacent to him. His descendnats claim Indian descent, for the most part.
