Looking for information on the origins and descendants of James Avant and his wife Lucy Cook. They were born about 1830 and 1840, respectively. They were an African American family in Hicksford dist. in 1880. They later moved to the Norfolk area later. Children included: Sarah, Mary, William, Rebecca, Alfreda, James, Junius, and Henrietta. I assume they were slaves in the area. Avant/Avent was a common surname in the 1880 census.
