I need some help finding information on a Major William Francis Avent(28DEC1827-6SEP1881), General and Staff Officer, Quartermaster with the Department of Alabama, Mississippi, and East Louisiana. I know that he was appointed Captain on 27 May 1862 and was listed as a Major serving with Gen. N. B. Forrest on 15 March 1864. His picture is posted on the Tennessee SCV web site (http://www.tennessee-scv.org/heroes/gallery.htm). He surrendered with Lt. Gen. R. Taylor at Citronville 4 May 1865 and was paroled 18 May 1865. I'd like any information about Major Avent's service with Forrest. Avent was married to Francis S. Brown. Thank you in advance for the assistance.
