Posted by Carolyn Anderson I will try and help with your Sarah Newsom and will give a possible lineage for her. Erasmus Gill married Sarah Newsom 6-8-1786 in Dinwiddie Co. VA. Erasmus Gill and Sarah Newsom were the parents of an only daughter Martha N. Gill who married Captain John Hinton. John Hinton and Martha N. Gill were the parents of John Hinton who became a Judge. John Hinton born at Folly Castle in the City of Petersburg VA July 1, 1818. Martha Gill Hinton died at Folly Castle at age 85 years having lived in the same house all of her life. Major Erasmus Gill is buried at the Blanford Cemetery in Petersburg. He was born July 15, 1752 and died March 16, 1807. Martha N. Gill was a neice of Peter Jones the founder of Petersburg and also descended from General Abram Wood, the Commandant of the post at Ft. Henry. Co., 1878) I can't say for certain, but I believe that Sarah Newsom was the daughter of Francis Newsom and Mary Simmons. Francis Newsom of Dinwiddie Co. m. Mary Simmons 12-28-1761 in Southampton Co. VA. Francis and Mary Newsom later moved to Dinwiddie Co. They were the parents of these children: John, Robert and Sarah Newsom. Since Sarah Newsom married Erasmus Gill in 1786 it would certainly fit the correct timeline. I would think there should be some records in Dinwiddie Co. that might clarify Sarah Newsom's lineage.
