I'm descended from Mary 'Polly' Spence, of Greensville County. She was a sister of John, Barholomew and Delilah. The following is a summary of the notes I have for Bartholomew. He seems to have left the area about 1815. Would that date match any of your research? Many families from Southside went to Tennessee so it would not be surprising that Bartholomew went there as well. How old was your Bartholomew when he died?
The younger brother, Bartholomew, also seen as Bart and Batte in records, first appeared on the personal property list in 1795. He appeared on the Greensville Personal Property Tax lists until 1801. In 1802, he was holding land in Northampton County, NC, as shown by the deed of trust between him and his sister, Priscilla, of Greensville County . In 1805, the court ordered this land, 100 acres, to be sold to George Rives to pay off debts . He must have moved back to Virginia because from 1805 until 1814 he appeared on every Greensville County Personal Property Tax List. It is not known what happened to him after 1815, though he is mentioned as alive in 1835 in the deposition given regarding his father's Revolutionary War service.
