Posted by Tracey I have been trying to research my great-great grandfather Jackson Ebenezer Woodruff. He is my brickwall ancestor. However, I just had a breakthrough. In the 1850 United States Federal Census there is a J. E. Woodruff listed in Greensville, Virginia. He is the right age - about 9. The estimated birth year is 1841, also within the accepted range. His parents are listed as B. D. Woodruff and M. R. Woodruff. The initials do not give me much to go on. I am wondering if anyone knows if the J. E. actually stands for Jackson Ebenezer. If yes, what do the parents initials stand for? If so this must be my great-great grandfather! Please, please, please, help me. There is no way that I can get to Virginia to check this record, particularly if it is a dead end or just plain wrong.
