Richard Minter lived in that part of Goochland which later became Powhatan County. He named his brother, Anthony Minter of Powhatan as exor. of his will but Anthony Minter refused to do so. Richard's son, John Minter, qualified as adm of the estate, with will attached, at the Powhatan County July 1792 court. Richard Minter had four known sons, John, Richard, Jesse and Scruggs and two known daughters, Elizabeth and Ann Minter. At the March 1793 Powhatan Court, they, along with Jesse's and Scruggs' guardian, Jesse Tucker, were sued by Chillion White and the court ordered that the defendants make out a deed of conveyance to the pltf of the tract of land named in the bill (but not named in the ct. mintes). John Minter and his brother Scruggs Minter settled in Fluvanna County, Jesse first went to Augusta County and then settled in West Virginia. Richard Minter removed out of the state. Willis Scruggs Minter was the son of Scruggs Minter. Scruggs Minter mar. Kitty Anderson in Fluvanna County 25 Dec. 1810. Willis Scruggs Minter was b. ca. 1819. His first wife was Lucy Anderson. Willis Scruggs Minter also served during the Civil War.
