In the early 1920's/30's, there was a little one or two room schoolhouse on Cartersville Road, half-way between Elk Hill and Pemberton. Someone eventually bought the schoolhouse, and soon afterwards, it was destroyed by a fire, sometime in the 1970's (?) I have asked at the Library of Va, the Goochland school board, and the Va Historical Society, but no one seems to have records of this school. This is a long shot--but does anyone have any knowledge of Backbone School ? Judy Metz
