There are several Sylvanus Johnsons in the Johnson family tree of my mother. Her ancestor Stephen Edward Johnson was born 01NOV1808 in Georgia and died 15MARCH1897 in Itawamba County Mississippi. Stephen's wife was Elizabeth Gibson, born,03OCT1830 in Wilkes county Georgia. She was the daughter of Sylvanus Gibson and Mary Orr.
The name Sylvanus appears to start with the son and grandson of George Gibson of Scotland and Augusta County Virgina. This George married Judith LNU.
Mother's Johnsons were in Bastrop County Texas around 1850. Information at the web site for Bastrop County Texas states this Johnson group was related to President Andrew Johnson, Albert Sidney Johnson and a famous civil war general from NC. Still have not found anything else about Stephen Edward except his birth and death information recorded on his tombstone.
