I'm a great great great grandson of Lucy Eppes Wells and William C. Mayhugh. I've always been told that Lucy was thought to be an indian baby left near a well, found by a family and given the name wells. I do not clearly understand the link to Joel Wells and thought she may have been found by a member of the eppes family. Do you know if Joel Wells was married to an Eppes? This is a common last name in that area. Or, perhaps one of the maiden names up one side of the lineage was Eppes. In any event I have a photo of Lucy Eppes Wells Mayhugh. I know where her grave is and I guess that is about all I know. I have always wanted to get back another generation on this line but have not had the time to persue the matter.
