I am from NC originally, but we live now in SC. I had a friend in high school (graduated 962) by the name of John Jolly, now deceased. He appeared to have American Indian ancestry and was descended from James Jolly and Keziah Jolly Jolly (cousins), who very likely had native ancestry. I wonder if Jolly/Jolley/Jolie is French Huguenot and if they married into the Monicans or other tribes near Richmond or the tidewater? I know that William Byrd brought in French Huguenots to the site of Manikintown (near Richmond) in 1700. I wonder if Jolly family members were among those. One Internet site states that a John Jolly settled in Virginia in 1636 (but it doesn't say where) Would be glad to furnish more information on Keziah Jolly.
