I have found nothing to indicate that he was a surveyor. Could have taken it up. Later genrations bought more and more land and married more and more land. The family bought 3/5's of the original Fort Henry lang grant. They built East Hill (Bollingbrook), West Hill (Rose Hill), and lastly Centre Hill. All had land around them. The land north and south of these estates in Petersburg, VA was subdivided and sold.
