The marriage license lists the following:
Bolling Green, age 23, single, born in Charles City, resident of Charles City, occupation laborer, son of Susan Green.
Mary Julia Going, age 21, single, born in Charles City, resident of Charles City, daughter of Fleming and Hannah Going. They were married 03 May 1877 by John Minson.
The Going name (also Goins, Gawayne, etc.) is a very old free black/mulatto name with roots in the 1600's in Williamsburg. I think there is some confusion about Fleming and that his name might have been Brown changed to Goins or vice versa -- can't recall at the moment. The one known death of a person of color during Revolutionary War service was that of Raverly Going. I hope this information is helpful to you.
Regards, Judy Ledbetter
