In Reference to John M. Barlow and Anna T. Wills.
I am a descendent of her sister, Eliza Braxton Wills, and I found this reference on a Barlow website (I have not found an original copy):
Eminent Virginians from 1884 Hardesty’s Encyclopedia
pg 422 Wife of Wesley Simmons Brockwell ~ Charles City Co, Virginia ~ born at Cottage Hill, Charles City Co on April 22, 1861 to John Mosby Barlow and Annie Tolbert Wells. Her parents now live in Henrico County. Marriage was on August 28, 1879 at Runnymede
Their first child, Maude Benson, was born July 5, 1880. Their second, Minge Tolbert, born February 13, 1882, died September 7th following
John Wesley, their youngest, born November 25, 1883
Also found references in the papers of the Shirley Plantation to "John M. Barlow" (1848)as building a barn for Hill Carter [note: in the 1850 Census John Barlow is listed as a Carpenter]; mentioned in early Shirley papers is also "Peter West". Peter West is the presumed father of Braxton Wills' wife, Eliza; he left land to Peter C. Wills who was the brother of Anna T. (Wills) Barlow Smith; Peter C. Wills lived near the Barlows in Charles City.
Am trying to trace Braxton Wills/Wells heritage.
