Austin H. "Boss" Ferguson lived in the county and operated a private boarding school called the Northwood Academy. In the 1860 Census he is listed as age 58, with his wife Jane age 44, and five daughters the youngest of whom was age 8. There is no son listed. In the household next door there is a John M. Ferguson age 60 and a Sarah L. Ferguson age 21, but no children. The county birth register does not show any Ferguson children born in 1855, 1856 or 1857. Are you sure your Rev. John C. came from Charles City, Va?
