Seeking any information on the WELCH/WELSH/WEALSH/WEALCH/WEELCH family of pre-1760 Buckingham Co VA. In particular looking for 5th great grandfather, ROBERT WELCH/WELSH (b c 1760 Buckingham Co VA/d c 1838 Grainger Co TN). Enlisted in VA Militia from Buckingham Co in July 1777. Transferred to "Lee's Legion" Dragoon's during Revolutionary War. Following discharge in 1781 he went into "Greenbrier" [VA]. In 1783 he was granted a military warrant for KY lands which he registered in Lexington, Fayette Co KY. By 1794, Robert, whose residence was listed as "Greenbrier", married in Rockbridge Co VA, SUSANNAH APS (or Epps), step-daughter of JOHN FLINT. By circa 1795 Robert had gone to Powell's Valley (then Russell, later Lee, Co VA). Robert then settled in, then, Claiborne Co TN, a portion of which became Grainger Co TN. Robert may be the elder man in the home of JOSEPH & NANCY (WELCH) WOLFENBARGER in the 1830 TN census. Robert is listed on Grainger Co TX lists in 1832-1838. Robert died in Grainger Co TN after 1838 but before 1840 TN census. Any help identifying ROBERT's parentage is greatly appreciated.
