I am searching for any information on my 3rd great grandfather Andrew J. Viser/Visor, born about 1758, France. He came to this Country with Duc de Lauzun and his Legion, in May of 1780.
The volontaires-etrangers de Lauzun, the light troops of the little army France sent across the Atlantic in 1780 that tipped the scales in favor of American Independence
Andre Joseph Vasseur (Andrew Visor) along with 36 other men granted themselves a discharge from the French Army on 5/12/1782, at Charlotte County, VA.
Fate of Lauzun's Legionaires
from The Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route in the State of Delaware, 1781-1783
-- An Historical And Architectural Survey by Robert Selig (State of Delaware, 2003)
Andre Joseph Vasseur, age 22, deserts May 1882, at Charlotte Court House.
Andrew Viser/Visor was living in Buckingham VA on Wreck Island Creek in 1790 and 1800 per tax records. His neighbors were: Shadrack Smith, William Flowers, John Elgin and William Duiguid.
I need to know the name of Andrew Viser/Visor's wife. She may have been Native American.
Thank you,
Jo Ann Crafton
