Hello,
I just came across a deed in the Stafford County, Virginia courthouse that mentioned Lawson Barnett and his wife Catherine D. On Feb. 21, 1848 title was given to the Rappahannock County for a strip of land along the Rappahannock River that Lawson had given to them (for the purpose of a canal), but had never made them a title. Lawson's land was sold by a trustee named Philip Harrison, which leads me to believe that he defaulted on a debt and lost it. This is in Deed Book OO, p. 460.
