Posted by Bill Davidson There was man who was in Buckingham by 1830 named Baker W. Davidson (he died there in 1869), and I found a record where he was involved in burying a man named Irving Norvell in 1859. It is POSSIBLE that Baker W. Davidson, who was from the Davidson family that had been in Buckingham since back in 1761 when the county was created from Albemarle Co., VA, was not related to my Davidson family (I remain hopeful that DNA testing will answer that question some day). There was also a Thomas B. Norvell who was in Buckingham. Thomas was dead by 1898, and he was married to a Mary E. Unknown. I have no other information on the Norvell family in Buckingham earlier than the above people.

The sister of my great-grandfather was named Sallie Virginia Davidson (born 1855). She married Thomas Henry Norvell (born 1848). The parents of Thomas were John Guerrant Norvell and Jane Lee Snoddy. My Davidson family was in Cumberland Co., VA until they moved to Buckingham Co., VA around 1859. Based on the French Huguenot middle name of "Guerrant," I would not be surprised if John G. Norvell was from Buckingham Co., VA (where the Guerrant name, as well as the Snoddy name, were/are quite common). I do not know, however, the father of John G. Norvell.
