I'm wondering if anyone knows anythings about a "Free Town" that was a settlement or area of Brunswick, County, VA. I found my "free colored" ancestors living in this "Free Town" in the 1810 census. They are on pages 769 and 770 of the census. All of the last names on these 2 pages are listed as free colored people and some of the surnames are Pompey (my ancestors), Cain, Allen, James, Merritt, Newsom, Robins, Roberts and Stewart.
