Posted by nicholas Vanderborgh I need help finding about my greatgrandfather. Here is what I know. Came to Amelia Country, Giles Township, in 1869. Name: Gerrit VanderBorgh. Wife: Aaltje. Sons: Nicholas (Klaas), John, Cornelius, Jacob and Gerritt, Jr. Kids were between 14 (my grandfather, Nicholas), and 5 (Gerritt). They had a farm along the river (maybe). Sold out in 1871-1872, and moved to Long Island. My dad said: "they tried to grow tobacco and the land just wasn't good and it flooded.". These folks are in the 1860 Va Census. I would like to learn as much about where they lived, what was going on, and why they left.
