I use CO2 and find it a lot easier than trawling a compressor around - the main advantage is that it's quiet!
The only thing I needed to buy was a regulator which I managed to blag off of the nice man at the BOC centre as I said I wasn't sure if my other regulator would fit! Retail it would have been about £30.
You do need to make sure that your system is airtight, otherwise the setup freezes. If this happens, don't panic just turn the tank off and tighten everything and seal it all with PTFE tape.
If the paint is spluttery, turn up the pressure a little. Not too much as the CO2 is really cold as it is released!
Can't remember the cost of my bottle, but it's around the £10 - £15 mark with £1 per week rental.
