Posted by Franco What I found was we wasted alot of time EXPLAINING to people why the tattoos were different prices. Most people didn't want to hear it and they typically walked away. My experience was that once they asked about the price differences it really means they don't think the one they want should be more than the next and probably wont get it because of that. What I do now is just charge $5.00 for any tattoo as long as it is one color. Two or more colors is $7.00 and that is it. It just makes everything simple and easy for the customer to take their money out. It is hard for people to seeing the differences in the tattoos and that is what hurts us. If you do 20 tats per hour @ $5.00 you are bringing in $100 per hour per artist. Two artists doing an 8 hour event can bring in $1600+ per day and that is nothing to walk away from. I only do a couple of festivals a year and I always run 4 artists. I do pretty good at them. And it all comes down to what you think will work best for you. I don't think you geographical location is important unless you are a very low income area, in which case you should consider taking your show on the road. People will pay what you ask as long as they see the vlaue in it. I have a friend in Georgia who does festivals and he charges up to $12 for some tattoos. I always wonder how many people walk away from his booth because of his pricing. I would rather have $5.00 from everyone that walks up than see people walk away. Good luck.

I used to charge by the type of tattoo and found it to be a hassle. Of course MOST people still do this and I am not saying it is a bad idea. It just didn't work for me.
