Tattoo Inks

Just a couple of questions in your inks. What is the ratio that is recommended to reduce them with alcohol? Do you recommend regular rubbing alcohol?What is the shelf life of the ink? Thanks for you feedback. I am currently using water based ink which is great but expensive.
