At the time SM2 Nickles, leapith from the fantail underway in the Pacific after reportedly telling the Aft Lookout " watch this !" I was on the fantail that day trying to catch a nooner laying my head between the bits on the starboard side. Next thing I heard was the 1MC sounding Man Overboard ! He didn't want to get into the motor whaleboat and the Master at Arms ended up having to keep a 24 hour watch on him until we got on station and transferred him to the Cruiser who took him back to Panama. Unfortunately we finished the deployment and actually made it back to Mayport before he did. They gave him an extended stay in the brig in Panama before shipping him back for a discharge. I hope everything ended up working out for him in the long run.
