Posted by Pulchy Pilgrim There has recently been a lot of concern amongst Wrexham fans about the possible fate of The Racecourse Ground, which has been their home ever since the Wrexham club's formation way back in the early 1870s. The ground, which has a present-day capacity of 15,500, is among the best in the lower divisions of the Football League, and is used for both association football and rugby football internationals (Wales played Canada there this weekend). It now would appear that this fine historic ground may be subjected to substantial modifications which would make it a far less attractive sports venue, with some of the site being sold off or given over to "property development". Indeed, total closure of the ground cannot completely be ruled out. In this regard, a former solicitor who now works as a property consultant has recently taken over as chairman of this North Wales club, and it is perhaps significant that a new director who is another property consultant joined the Board shortly afterwards. A collection of Press reports which examine and comment on the very worrying situation at Wrexham AFC can be found on the home page of the Red Passion website: (to see the full archive, click on the red tab marked "Latest News" near the top right-hand corner of the site's home page) A group of Wrexham supporters have recently organised an on-line petition to the English and Welsh Football Associations and national and local politicians with the aim of saving the ground. This can be viewed at http://www.petitiononline.com/WREXHAM/petition.html If you share their concern at what is happening at their club, you might like to consider signing this petition on line (NB please sign with your real name and not with your message-board nickname, otherwise your form may not be accepted). Fans from a great many other clubs -- including many in Scotland -- are lending their backing to this campaign, but more signatures are still needed. Very many thanks in advance for your help.
