Yeah, as far as calling a match, I wouldn't call him great but like I said, entertaining. Monsoon wasn't great calling a match either but a great straight man as you said. For so many of us, they were just as much the voices of our youth as Lance & Dave were in this area. More so in reality due to WWF's popularity at the time. But there was so many great zingers & one-liners. His wit was unparalleled. You're right though. He wasn't at the same level in WCW but there were still moments. He was doing commentary during Nitro's best days when ratings were out the roof so his profile was still high and was still very funny on occasion but his chemistry with Monsoon was never matched by anyone there and I think he had issues with Bischoff and Schiavone. You could tell how much he loved Monsoon in his HOF speech with WWE. Which was one of the best HOF speeches to date in my mind. Just like everything in wrestling it's all subjective. I enjoyed his over-the-top heel announcing but realize he wasn't for everyone. I was talking to someone today about him & they didn't have any love for him at all. It was almost as if kayfabe had never died with him. I think that's very telling about his career especially during the "Golden Age" of the '80's.
